Based in Broome, you will play a key role in connecting Water Corporation with Aboriginal communities — supporting both project delivery and operational activities through meaningful engagement.

What the role will involve

• Lead the development and delivery of culturally appropriate engagement strategies for complex and high-profile projects. 
• Build trusted relationships with Traditional Owners, community leaders and stakeholders. 
• Provide guidance to internal teams to ensure projects are informed by community insight and cultural protocols. 
• Support communication during operational incidents. 
• Act as a key interface between Water Corporation and communities. 
• Manage and maintain customer and stakeholder interactions in databases and reporting systems
• Coordinate announcements and government relations support with the Media Team and Ministerial Liaison Unit.

To be successful in this role, you will have

• Experience in communications or stakeholder engagement 
• Ability to travel to remote locations. 
• Current, unrestricted C class Western Australian Driver’s License is an essential requirement of the role and the ability to undertake remote, regional travel may be required.

Key skills and experience:

• Tertiary level qualification in communications, public relations, marketing or a related discipline or substantial experience in communications, stakeholder and issues management.
• Considerable experience in Aboriginal community engagement, stakeholder and issues management, ideally for a large multi-disciplined organisation.
• Experience in Ministerial engagement and/or working with government processes.
• A positive, effective communication style with strong influencing skills.
• The ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment managing conflicting priorities and deadlines.
• Highly effective verbal and written communication skills and an ability to summarise complex issues for common use.
• A strong alignment and commitment to our values and behaviours that contribute to a constructive, high-performance culture.
• Prior IAP2 training desired but not essential.
• Ability to travel to and work from project sites in regional areas.
