Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Grade 3 Allied Health Assistant to join the Community Therapy Service and GEM at Home teams.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

The Grade 3 Allied Health Assistant will work to provide quality client care under the supervision of an Allied Health professional within the Community Therapy service and GEM at Home program at Northern Health. The allied health assistant will also provide administrative support and undertake cleaning and maintenance activities as directed.  

This role is based at Broadmeadows Hospital in the Community Therapy Service, and will work in the GEM at Home program out of Bundoora Centre.  Staff will be required to travel and work across the various Northern Health campuses, programs, and partner organisations as required. The role will require staff to be flexible with their working hours to meet the changing operational demands and can include working after hours, on weekends and public holidays. The role will be working primarily with Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy clinicians.  

The AHA has responsibility for participation in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services including ensuring competencies, credentialing and relevant professional development are completed. As a member of Northern Health Allied Health, the AHA will be required to participate in supervision, training, service improvement, and research as required. 

This position is fixed term full time until August 2026.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrate a patient/client centred focus in the provision of care 
  • Understands the basic theoretical principles of the work undertaken by Allied Health professionals 
  • Implement appropriate intervention as agreed, under the supervision of an Allied Health clinician (eg. mobility, shower and dress retraining) 
  • Supervise established programs for individual patients as requested by Allied Health clinicians 
  • Assists clinicians and clients in group programs  
  • Demonstrate ability to identify patient circumstances that require additional input from the Allied Health clinician  
  • Provide education to patients and their carers to support Allied Health clinician interventions (e.g. falls prevention, energy conservation, pressure injury management and prevention) 
  • Able to manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision
