CatholicCare Sydney is inviting internal Expressions of Interest for the role of the Behaviour Support and Counselling Specialist within our School Counselling and Wellbeing Services team.

This is a school-embedded role based at Eileen O’Connor Catholic School, dedicated to supporting students, families, and staff in fostering a positive and inclusive wellbeing culture.

As this is a newly established role, we are seeking an innovative and proactive professional who understands the diverse and complex needs of students attending Eileen O’Connor Catholic School, including those living with disability, additional learning needs, and social, emotional, and mental health challenges. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to work collaboratively within a school community, partnering effectively with the School Principal, teachers, leadership, and families to support student outcomes. They will be skilled in building trusting relationships, adapting their approach to meet individual student needs, and contributing meaningfully to a cohesive, whole school wellbeing framework. A strong commitment to inclusive practice and the capacity to embed evidence informed wellbeing strategies within the school context is essential.

Key Focus Areas

  • Be responsive to support students and families experiencing disability and mental health challenges, ensuring inclusive and equitable access to learning and wellbeing.
  • Provide short-term, individual and group counselling to support students’ social, emotional, and mental health needs to ensure they thrive in their learning
  • Provide consultation support for the development of individualised school-based support plans
  • Work in partnership with teachers, diverse learning teams, and school leadership
  • Maintain strong, respectful connections with families and liaise with external agencies and services to ensure holistic and integrated care.
  • Contribution to school wellbeing initiatives, workshops and programs
  • Uphold high standards of documentation, monitor outcomes effectively, and engage in ongoing professional supervision and reflective practice.

About You

  • Current AHPRA registration, or AASW membership, or PACFA practicing membership
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a clinical or counselling setting
  • Experience supporting children and adolescents with emotional and/or behavioural needs
  • Strong collaboration, communication and record-keeping skills
  • Commitment to child-safe practice and CatholicCare values
  • Compliance
  • Valid NSW Working With Children Check
  • Valid Police Check
