Description:

Mezi-Mazi is seeking a passionate and experienced Chef to join its kitchen team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing and cooking a variety of high-quality dishes, ensuring consistency in flavour, presentation, and freshness. They will maintain a clean and organised kitchen, uphold strict food safety and hygiene standards, and work closely with the team to deliver exceptional dining experiences. Previous experience in a similar role and a genuine passion for great food are essential.

Task & responsibilities

• Develop menus, forecast food and labour expenses, and oversee the procurement of ingredients and supplies. 
• Supervise the quality of dishes during all stages of preparation and presentation.
• Liaise with managers, dietitians, and kitchen or service staff on food production and service matters. 
• Demonstrate culinary methods and provide instruction on cooking practices and standards.
• Prepare and cook meals while ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to recipes.
• Implement and uphold strict hygiene, safety, and sanitation procedures within the kitchen.
• May participate in the recruitment, training, and supervision of kitchen personnel.
• May manage food preservation activities, including freezing, storing, and handling ingredients appropriately.

Qualification & experience

• Minimum of Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent work experience 
• Minimum 1 year of experience in related field.
• In-depth knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen operations. 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
