We are seeking a skilled and reliable Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of café meals, burgers, breakfast items, wraps, sides and other menu items in accordance with the business’s recipes, quality standards and food safety procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be required to:

  1. Prepare and cook a variety of café and burger menu items, including breakfast dishes, burgers, wraps, grilled items, fried items, sides and takeaway meals.
  2. Examine food ingredients and produce to ensure quality, freshness and suitability before preparation and cooking.
  3. Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, portioning, marinating, seasoning and organising food items required for daily service.
  4. Cook meals using grills, fryers, ovens, hotplates and other commercial kitchen equipment in accordance with the business’s menu and service requirements.
  5. Regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment to ensure food is cooked safely and consistently.
  6. Season, portion and present meals to ensure consistent taste, quality, appearance and serving size.
  7. Prepare sauces, fillings, burger components, breakfast items, salads, sides and other food items required for service.
  8. Monitor food during preparation and cooking to ensure meals are prepared in accordance with recipe standards, hygiene requirements and customer expectations.
  9. Assist with planning and organising daily food preparation to meet breakfast, lunch, dinner, takeaway and online order demand.
  10. Store food in temperature-controlled areas and ensure proper rotation of stock in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards.
  11. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, food preparation areas, cooking equipment and storage areas.
  12. Assist with checking stock levels of food ingredients, packaging and kitchen supplies, and report shortages to the manager or supervisor.
  13. Minimise food wastage by following portion control, stock rotation and correct preparation procedures.
  14. Assist in training and guiding kitchen hands or junior staff in basic food preparation, hygiene practices and safe kitchen procedures.
  15. Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including safe handling of hot equipment, sharp tools, cleaning chemicals and food products.
