As our services continue to expand, we are seeking a Clinical NUM – Scrub/Scout to provide visible clinical leadership and governance oversight within perioperative services.
About the Role
The Clinical NUM – Scrub/Scout is responsible for the clinical leadership, governance, and operational management of the scrub‑scout service within the operating theatres. This role maintains a strong clinical presence, supports staff capability, and ensures safe, efficient theatre function across orthopaedic and spinal procedures.
The Clinical NUM will work in close partnership with the DON, GM and senior leadership team to ensure standards of care, workforce management, and clinical governance requirements are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership and Governance
Provide visible clinical leadership within the operating theatres, modelling best‑practice scrub–scout nursing care
Ensure compliance with perioperative standards, infection prevention and control, and aseptic technique
Lead clinical governance within the scrub–scout portfolio,
Support accreditation, audit readiness, and continuous quality improvement within perioperative services
Workforce and Team Management
Lead, support, and engage scrub–scout nursing staff to promote a positive, consistent, and professional team culture
Lead rostering and skill mix to meet clinical demand and theatre efficiency
Operational and Service Management
Oversee the day‑to‑day coordination of scrub–scout services to support efficient theatre flow
Ensure appropriate preparation of theatres, equipment, and instrumentation for scheduled procedures
Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetics, and other perioperative leaders to optimise patient outcomes and service delivery
Selection Criteria
To ensure your success, you will have:
Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
Experience in working in Private Hospitals
Seeking a NUM with demonstrated experience in theatre (Scrub/Scout), including orthopaedics, and prior NUM or leadership experience
