The role:

The Accounting Clerk provides support to accountants and tax consultants by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with compliance reporting. This role ensures that clients’ accounts and the firm’s internal ledgers are up to date and accurate.

Task & responsibilities

Financial Processing & Recording - Record, classify, and post transactions in accounting systems (e.g., MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks). - Prepare and issue invoices, receipts, and credit notes; monitor accounts receivable and payable. - Reconcile bank, credit card, and petty cash accounts regularly. - Process payroll data, superannuation contributions, and Single Touch Payroll (STP) reports. - Assist accountants in preparing BAS, IAS, and payroll tax statements. 

Reporting & Compliance - Prepare trial balances, ledgers, and other summaries for monthly/quarterly reporting. - Support year-end work papers for tax and audit purposes. - Maintain accurate records to comply with ATO requirements and Australian Accounting Standards. 

Client & Team Support - Respond to routine client queries regarding accounts, invoices, and payments. - Assist with client onboarding, including setting up charts of accounts and software files. - Liaise with the ATO, banks, auditors, and suppliers as directed. - Provide general administrative assistance to senior accountants and managers. 

Quality & Professional Standards - Follow firm policies, professional codes of ethics, and confidentiality obligations. - Meet deadlines for BAS, payroll, and other statutory lodgements. - Ensure accuracy, attention to detail, and compliance in all financial processing.


Qualification & experience

  • Certificate III/IV, Diploma, or equivalent in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Business. 
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in accounting or bookkeeping (work placement may be considered). 
  • Knowledge of Australian tax and payroll legislation (preferred). 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks).  
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
