Computer Network and Systems Engineer

Spencer College is seeking an experienced Office Manager to join our Brisbane campus team on a full-time basis. To support our growing operations and ensure reliability of our IT systems and network infrastructure, we are seeking an experienced Computer Network and Systems Engineer to join our team.

Position Summary

The Computer Network and Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring, and optimization of Spencer College’s network and IT systems. This role ensures reliable, secure, and high-performance network operations across all campuses and supports the college’s staff and students.

Task & responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Network Design & Assessment: Plan, assess, and optimize network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and servers.
• Performance Optimization: Monitor network performance, analyze traffic patterns, and implement improvements using tools such as Wireshark, SolarWinds, and SNMP.
• Configuration Management: Maintain, update, and fine-tune device configurations to improve network security and efficiency.
• Capacity Planning: Forecast network capacity requirements and recommend upgrades to ensure scalability, including transitions to higher bandwidth backbones.
• Troubleshooting & Incident Response: Diagnose and resolve network and system issues, coordinate emergency response during outages, and conduct root cause analysis.
• Preventive Maintenance: Implement proactive monitoring, perform regular audits, and maintain disaster recovery and maintenance procedures.
• Hardware & Software Evaluation: Review and recommend upgrades for network hardware, servers, storage, and software applications.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed network diagrams, topology maps, configuration records, incident logs, and performance reports.
• Network Enhancements & Change Management: Manage network changes, including testing, implementation, post-change evaluation, and documentation.
• User & Traffic Analysis: Monitor bandwidth utilization, device inventory, application usage, and user activity to optimize network performance and security.

Qualification & experience

Skills and Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years relevant post-qualification experience in network and systems engineering.
• Strong experience with routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless infrastructure.
• Proficiency in network monitoring, performance analysis, and packet analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, SNMP).
• Experience with Windows and Linux server administration and virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V).
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF).
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
