The role:

Guru Sahib Pty Ltd, trading as Delhi6 Sweets & Savouries SR, is seeking a passionate and experienced Cook to join our growing kitchen team. This role involves working in a busy, authentic Indian restaurant kitchen where you will prepare a variety of traditional dishes, snacks, and sweets. You’ll be part of a supportive team, contributing to high-quality food service and maintaining strict kitchen hygiene standards. This position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about Indian cuisine and committed to consistency in food preparation.

Task & responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a wide variety of traditional Indian dishes, snacks, and sweets according to established recipes and kitchen procedures
  • Examine and inspect food ingredients to ensure freshness, cleanliness, and quality prior to preparation
  • Monitor and regulate cooking equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, and stoves to ensure accurate temperature control
  • Season food appropriately during the cooking process, following standard preparation methods
  • Portion food and plate meals attractively, adding gravies, sauces, and garnishes as required
  • Store raw ingredients and cooked items in appropriate temperature-controlled storage areas in line with food safety requirements
  • Follow instructions and daily preparation schedules provided by the Head Chef, Sous Chef, or other senior kitchen staff
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, utensils, and cooking equipment according to hygiene and safety standards
  • Assist in stock rotation and notify senior staff when supplies need to be replenished
  • Cooperate with kitchen team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations during service periods

Qualification & experience

  • Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery / Kitchen Management
  • At least 1 to 2 years of proven experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen, preferably in an Indian cuisine setting
  • Sound knowledge of Indian cooking techniques, spice usage, and preparation of traditional dishes
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
