An established agency is seeking an Underwriter to join their supportive, inclusive and friendly team in Melbourne, focusing on financial lines for engineering risks.
Key Responsibilities:
Interview brokers to identify their insurance needs and risk profiles. Seek out, assess and convert new business opportunities in conjunction with Underwriting appetites, authorities and philosophies
Explain insurance products, coverage, premiums, and policy conditions in clear terms
Work in a cohesive manner within a small team of underwriters and administrative staff
Ongoing day to day management of business including referrals, quotes, policy documentation, endorsements, broker enquiries etc. while at all times adhering to the Service Standard guidelines
Calculate premiums and establish methods of payment in line with underwriting guidelines
Review client circumstances and policy renewals to ensure cover remains appropriate
Record and maintain accurate information about clients, policies, and renewals
Settle and monitor claims in coordination with insurers, ensuring satisfactory outcomes
Identify potential new clients and business opportunities, follow up leads, and prepare quotations
Attend marketing functions and broker presentations as necessary and/or requested by the Underwriting Manager. This may include interstate and overnight travel, and after-hours networking
Keep up to date with changes in the insurance industry, financial lines, and risk trends, and provide informed advice to clients and brokers

About You:
At least 5 years’ relevant insurance experience, ideally in underwriting or financial lines
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills
Excellent verbal and written communication
Strong negotiation, decision-making, and client relationship management skills
Professional insurance qualifications (e.g. CIP, ANZIIF) will be highly regarded
Client facing experience
