Our client in Welshpool requires the services of an experienced Fitter.

Position Overview:

The Fitter is responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining mechanical systems and equipment to ensure maximum reliability and minimal downtime. The successful candidate will conduct both preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and optimize equipment performance, all while adhering to safety standards and operational guidelines.

Task & responsibilities

Assembling and Installing Equipment

• Assemble, align, and install mechanical parts, tools, and equipment as per blueprints and technical diagrams.
• Set up machines and equipment according to production requirements, including positioning and securing parts to ensure accurate fit.

Diagnosing and Repairing Faults

• Inspect machinery and mechanical components to diagnose issues or malfunctions and determine appropriate repair strategies.
• Dismantle machinery and parts to access and repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Maintaining and Testing Equipment 

• Conduct routine maintenance on mechanical equipment, following a preventive maintenance schedule to enhance equipment performance and lifespan.
• Test machinery after repairs to verify that issues are resolved, ensuring proper operation and compliance with safety standards.

Reading and Interpreting Technical Documents

• Utilize technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to understand specifications for machinery installation and repair.
• Accurately follow complex assembly instructions, making adjustments as necessary to align with production standards.

Collaborating with Other Technicians

• Work closely with other tradespeople, engineers, and team members to troubleshoot and optimize machinery functions.
• Support production goals by ensuring minimal downtime through efficient maintenance and prompt response to repair needs.

Qualification & experience

• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience as a Fitter (General) in a metal, manufacturing, or engineering environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical fitting techniques, tools, and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
