Floor Finisher

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Floor Finisher to join our team at Samb Services and Solutions Pty Ltd t/a Yes Carpet. This role involves measuring, cutting, installing, and repairing various types of floor coverings including carpet, vinyl, timber, and other resilient flooring materials. The successful candidate will work on residential and commercial projects, ensuring high-quality installations that meet industry standards and customer expectations.

Task & responsibilities

Duties 

• Measure and calculate areas for flooring installation, determining, material requirements and costs.
• Cut and shape various flooring materials including carpet, vinyl, timber, laminate, and resilient surfaces using hand and power tools.
• Install carpet using stretching techniques, tack strips, and adhesives as required.
• Install vinyl, linoleum, and other resilient floor coverings using appropriate adhesives and joining techniques.
• Prepare subfloors by cleaning, leveling, and applying appropriate underlayment or moisture barriers.
• Install timber flooring including solid timber, engineered boards, and laminate products.
• Sand, stain, and apply finishing coatings to timber floors.
• Repair damaged floor coverings and replace sections as needed.
• Install transitions, trims, and moldings to complete flooring projects.
• Move furniture and prepare work areas, ensuring minimal disruption to clients.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute flooring installations according to project specifications and timelines.
• Ensure all work meets quality standards and industry best practices.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and clients regarding project progress and any issues.
• Maintain accurate records of materials used and time spent on projects.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Keep work areas clean and organized during and after completion of work.
• Identify and report potential problems or defects in materials or subfloors.
• Provide excellent customer service and represent the company professionally.
• Attend training sessions and stay updated with new techniques and products.
• May install wall, ceiling, counter, and bench coverings as required

Qualification & experience

Skills and Qualifications:

• AQF Certificate III in Flooring Technology or at least three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualification. 
• Minimum of 1 year of full-time work experience in the flooring industry, preferably as a Floor Finisher
• Demonstrated experience in measuring, cutting, and installing various types of floor covering including carpet, vinyl, timber, and resilient materials.
• Proficiency in using flooring tools and equipment including power stretchers, seaming irons, nail guns, saws, and sanders.
• Strong mathematical skills for calculating areas, materials, and costs.
• Physical fitness and ability to work in various positions including kneeling, bending, and lifting heavy materials.

Desirable Requirements:

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Knowledge of building codes and installation standards relevant to flooring.
• Experience with specialized flooring systems and commercial installations.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Current First Aid certificate.
