Role Overview

AWF is looking for a skilled Metal Fabricator to join our dynamic manufacturing team. This role involves hands-on fabrication of sheet metal components in various materials—Colourbond, zinc, galv, stainless steel, copper—and delivering precision-engineered products for roofing, flashing, guttering, and more.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

• Proven experience of 2 years as a metal fabricator in sheet metal or similar industries.
• Certificate IV in engineering
• Certificate III in Engineering fabrication trade
• Proficiency with fabrication machinery (e.g., roll formers, shears).
• Good knowledge of CNC operation.
• Familiarity with CAD program and designs.
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with metals such as Colourbond, zinc, galv, stainless steel, and copper.
• Excellent attention to detail with good time-management skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and team-oriented workflow.

Task & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Examine and interpret detailed engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine job requirements, material specifications, and appropriate fabrication techniques.
• Mark out reference points, cutting lines, and bending locations on metal stock, applying measurement tools and templates to ensure accuracy and alignment with project specifications.
• Cut, shape, and bend metal sections and components using power tools, machine tools, and hand tools, ensuring compliance with precise tolerances.
• Assemble fabricated components through welding, bolting, riveting, or other fastening methods to produce structural frameworks, metal assemblies, or customised products.
• Operate and adjust fabrication machinery and equipment, such as guillotines, presses, rollers, and folding machines, to manufacture parts to specification.
• Perform quality inspections during and after fabrication, identifying defects or deviations and taking corrective measures to maintain high standards of workmanship.
• Apply finishing techniques, such as grinding, sanding, and polishing, to achieve the required surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
• Ensure adherence to workplace health and safety protocols, including safe operation of tools, use of protective equipment, and compliance with relevant legislation.
• Maintain and service fabrication tools and equipment to ensure operational reliability and minimise downtime.
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other trades personnel to coordinate work activities, resolve fabrication challenges, and meet production deadlines.
