Ensure vehicles are safe, reliable and compliant by diagnosing faults, carrying out high-quality repairs and preventative maintenance, and documenting work to manufacturer/workshop standards.

Task & responsibilities

Key responsibilities (aligned to ANZSCO 321211)

Diagnose, test and repair mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using scan tools and workshop equipment.

Perform logbook/scheduled servicing, roadworthy checks and road tests.

Overhaul/replace assemblies (engines, transmissions, steering/suspension, braking, cooling, fuel systems).

Interpret technical data, wiring diagrams and service bulletins; complete job cards/ROs accurately.

Estimate parts/labour, source components and manage stock; liaise with suppliers and customers.

Apply torque specs and special tools; quality-check work prior to hand-over.

Maintain a clean, safe work bay; follow WHS and environmental policies.

Qualification & experience

Skills, qualifications & experience

Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent).

Minimum 1 year’s post-qualification, hands-on experience as a Motor Mechanic in a busy workshop.

Strong diagnostics with OBD-II/scan tools, multimeters, pressure/vac testing.

Knowledge of service schedules, Australian safety/roadworthiness standards and workshop QA.

Manual driver’s licence; good communication and customer focus.
