We are looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Heavy Transport Technician to join our growing team, giving exposure to a world-wide network, challenges and opportunities.

The Role:

The role of a Senior Heavy Transport Technician is pivotal to the seamless execution of intricate transportation projects. As a Senior Technician, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all facets of heavy transport operations. This includes participating in route-planning and movement of oversized loads based on mechanical specification and integrity of equipment/machinery involved in movement of oversized loads, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and project specifications. Collaborating closely with Project Managers and field teams, you will utilise your expertise to troubleshoot any technical challenges and optimise transport efficiency. Your role will be instrumental in upholding Fagioli's reputation for excellence in the heavy transport industry, while also contributing to the company's commitment to innovation, reliability, and client satisfaction.

Desired Qualification:

  • A diploma or degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field is preferred but can be substituted by a sufficient level of equivalent industry work experience. Specialised training or certifications in heavy transport equipment may also be advantageous.

  • Significant experience in heavy transport operations, typically ranging from 5 to 10 years or more. Experience in planning and executing the transportation of oversized or heavy loads is highly valued.

  • Proficiency in operational knowledge and maintaining a variety of heavy transport equipment, including specialised Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT) axles, modular jacking systems and other mechanical equipment. Knowledge of hydraulic systems, braking systems, and load securing techniques is essential.

  • Expertise in route planning and logistics management, with the ability to calculate load dimensions, assess road conditions, and identify optimal transportation routes while adhering to legal and safety regulations and mechanical integrity of equipment/machinery.

  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations governing heavy transport operations, including load securing requirements, weight restrictions, and permit regulations. Certification in relevant safety protocols, such as OSHA or equivalent, may be required.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues, resolve logistical challenges, and adapt to unforeseen circumstances during transport operations.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for collaborating with project managers, field teams, and external stakeholders. The ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely is crucial.

Job Duties / Main Responsibilities

  •  Plan and manage execution strategy and project site operations related to complex transport operations, and modules movements (from 400 tons and above)

  • Coordinate with other parties (i.e. other departments, subcontractors, clients etc.) ensuring compliance with the applicable international standards and with company and client safe rigging, lifting and transport practices.

  • Check and conduct tests on mechanical and hydraulic systems to ensure they are operating within manufacturer specification.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in hydraulic and electrical systems. Coordinate with the equipment manufacture to resolve the fault.

  • Organise and manage routine inspections and compliance reporting for SPMTs and specialised equipment.

  • Liaise with the maintenance team to coordinate repair and maintenance ordinary and extraordinary according to manufacturer user manual and maintenance guidelines and oversees third-party repairs (if and when required).

  • Oversee and maintain daily prestart inspections of SPMTs (Self Propeller Modular Transporters), transport equipment and all associated lifting/lashing equipment and accessories, paying particular attention to the engineering documents issued and their applicability for site activities.

  • Leads the assembly and configuration of SPMT and specialised lifting/transport equipment from the set-up phase to the applicable functional tests prior starting the execution of the relevant operations.

  • Assesses transport routes and plans considering infrastructure load and dimension restrictions, all part of the inputs to be collected and used for route survey preparation in liaise on with engineering team.

  • Participates (once appointed by reporting manager) as Safety Leader at toolbox, Job Safety Analysis, and meetings before commencing operations and/or before starting set up of all the preconditions required for the timely and safely execution of the heavy transports activities.

  • Trains and mentors SPMT operators and mechanics as part of the transfer of knowledge program defined at company level and/or once required (skill sharing).

  • Participates and provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in technical meetings with Company management and site personnel as required.

  • Develops or participates in the developing process of SOPs and Working Procedures (such as but not limited to Safe Work instruction, Method Statements, Health and Safety Plan, Environmental Plan etc.).
