Task & responsibilities
- Design, develop, and apply electrical engineering solutions for power systems used in energy trading and forecasting activities.
- Analyse and model electrical power systems, including generation assets, transmission constraints, and network behaviour, to support power forecasting and market strategy.
- Apply electrical engineering principles to assess renewable energy production, grid interactions, and system performance.
- Develop, validate, and maintain engineering models that integrate electrical power system data with market and operational inputs.
- Interpret technical specifications, system data, and regulatory requirements related to electrical power systems and electricity markets.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure engineering solutions align with operational, commercial, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical input on power system behaviour, risks, and opportunities to support decision-making and optimisation of trading strategies.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools, models, and methodologies used across the business.
- Perform ad hoc electrical engineering analysis and technical problem-solving as required.
Qualification & experience
Core Qualifications & Education
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) from an accredited institution.
Technical Skills & Tools
- Design & Analysis: Proficient in electrical engineering software tools such as ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, AutoCAD, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, power systems, HV/LV infrastructure, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transmission and distribution systems, and control systems.
- Compliance & Docs: Skilled in preparing schematics and bills of materials (BOMs), with knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM), Australian electrical standards, and grid connection requirements (e.g., AS/NZS standards, AEMO processes, and IEC standards).
Soft Skills
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for electrical systems, including root cause analysis.
- Communication: Ability to write clear technical reports and collaborate effectively with teams.
- Project Management: Capability to manage deliverables, timelines, and cross-functional project teams.
Optional/Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLC), microcontroller programming, or embedded systems.
- Experience with renewable energy technologies or high-voltage system
