We’re looking for a Farm Hand / Maintenance Assistant to join our properties in the Pakenham area. This is not a “sit in the ute and look busy” type of role. This is real, hands-on Australian farm work involving livestock, machinery, pasture management, fencing, irrigation, cropping and plenty of variety.
We are also working towards becoming an officially recognised biodynamic (“bio”) farm, with a strong focus on sustainable farming, healthy animals, healthy soil and doing things properly. This role will suit someone who enjoys varied farm work, takes pride in their work, and is eager to learn from highly experienced operators.
You will be working closely alongside a very hands-on farmer who has been farming for more than 60 years. They are extremely knowledgeable and have developed proven farming methods through decades of practical experience. The right candidate will have the opportunity to learn an enormous amount from someone deeply passionate about traditional farming values and quality workmanship.
If you are looking for a role that represents the epitome of authentic Australian farm work, this could be the opportunity for you.
Your daily duties may include but are not limited to:
General labouring duties
Fencing and repairs
Mowing grass and maintaining paddocks and fields
Spraying approved pesticides, biological treatments or fertilisers
Driving utes, motorbikes, tractors and quad bikes
Managing irrigation systems
Working with livestock, including feeding, health monitoring and pasture rotation
Handling animals with confidence, patience and care
Assisting with calving/lambing and caring for newborn animals
Developing and maintaining healthy pastures
Harvesting crops and hay baling
Mechanical diagnostics and repairs
Operating heavy machinery
General farm and property maintenance
Working with third-party contractors where required
Assisting with ongoing improvements focused on sustainable and biodynamic farming practices
To be considered for this position, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
Drivers Licence
Ability to work efficiently and safely with minimal supervision
Tractor experience is essential
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
Confidence working around livestock and animals
A strong work ethic and positive attitude
Good communication skills
High level of initiative and reliability
Commitment to safety and farm culture
Experience with irrigation systems and farm equipment
Physical fitness and strong time management skills
Willingness to learn traditional, hands-on farming methods
A genuine interest in sustainable or biodynamic farming practices
Own hand tools would be highly regarded.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to immerse themselves in real farm life, gain valuable practical experience, and contribute to a property focused on long-term sustainability and quality farming practices.
