SAYU is seeking a motivated and experienced Chef to join our team on a full-time basis. We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable, and passionate about delivering high-quality food and service in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

About the Role

The Chef will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, stock control, food safety, and maintaining kitchen standards during service periods.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and present menu items to restaurant standards
  • Maintain consistency in food quality, portion control, and presentation
  • Assist with kitchen preparation and service periods
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures
  • Ensure correct food handling, storage, labelling, and temperature control
  • Assist with stock rotation, ordering, and inventory management
  • Minimise food waste and assist with cost control practices
  • Work cooperatively with kitchen and front-of-house staff
  • Assist with menu development, specials, and seasonal dishes where required
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and report maintenance issues promptly
  • Assist with training and supporting junior kitchen staff where required

Qualifications Required

  • Relevant Diploma OR Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification preferred

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 12 months full time experience working in a commercial kitchen or restaurant environment
  • Experience working in a fast-paced hospitality venue preferred
  • Experience in Japanese and Asian cuisine preferred.

Skills Required

  • Strong food preparation and cooking skills
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and public holidays
