BPC Capital is a new private investment firm based in Melbourne that is acquiring equity in established, profitable Australian small businesses. One of our focus segments is the Construction Trades & Light Manufacturing sector: trade contractors and specialist manufacturers with recurring revenue, strong commercial relationships, proven cash flow, and a durable operating history.
We are looking for experienced operators who are looking to take the next step in their career through a competitive salary and equity share in businesses that we acquire. You can be involved in the acquisition process to ensure the business is a good fit.
Key criteria of businesses that we acquire are that they generate $1.5m–$5m in annual EBITDA and have operated profitably for 10 or more years under capable management. Examples of businesses that we are targeting in this subsector include structural steel fabrication, concrete pumping, waterproofing, building/pest inspection, infrastructure maintenance, electrical contracting, aluminum and glass manufacturing, specialist civil and earthworks, commercial painting and landscaping.
Candidate criteria:
Minimum 12+ years of operational leadership in a specialty trade contracting or light manufacturing business
P&L responsibility for a business generating $2m–$20m in annual revenue
Demonstrated experience managing trade workforces, subcontractors and commercial clients in a field-based environment
Asset management capability — comfortable overseeing plant, equipment and fleet maintenance
Relevant trade or management qualifications (preferred but not essential — track record counts most)
Clean police & regulatory history — a fit & proper assessment is required prior to appointment
Motivated by equity ownership and long-term value creation in the business you operate
As General Manager, you will take full P&L accountability for the specialty trade or manufacturing business you are appointed to operate that suits your background. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Operational leadership across field crews, supervisors, estimators and office staff
Tendering, contract management and client relationship management
Revenue growth, new business development and customer retention
Safety management — WHS compliance, incident reporting, subcontractor oversight
Financial reporting to BPC Capital (monthly management accounts, cash flow visibility)
Licensing, trade registration and regulatory compliance
Plant, fleet and equipment management — maintenance schedules and capital replacement planning
Execution of the agreed annual business plan, with BPC Capital's consent for material deviations
