Meals on Wheels Brisbane South
Location: Colburn Ave, Victoria Point.
Work-life balance starts here.
Meals on Wheels Brisbane South is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen operations at our Victoria Point service.
This is a rare opportunity to enjoy a rewarding culinary career with family-friendly hours. The position offers full-time employment, Monday to Friday, with an early start between 5:00am and 6:00am meaning an early finish each day. There are no weekend shifts, no public holiday work, and no split shifts, making it the perfect role for someone seeking greater work-life balance while making a meaningful difference in their community.
Our Victoria Point kitchen produces approximately 175 meals per day. You will work closely with a dedicated team of volunteers who assist with meal preparation, portioning, and packaging for our clients and other Meals on Wheels services.
Meals on Wheels has proudly supported communities for more than 70 years, delivering nutritious meals and social connection to older Australians and, more recently, NDIS participants and other community members.
Within the Brisbane South Aged Care Planning Region, 11 local Meals on Wheels services have come together to form Meals on Wheels Brisbane South, enabling us to provide high-quality services to more people across our communities.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, values-driven Head Chef who is committed to delivering more than just a meal. Working closely with our administration team and volunteers, you will ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality, nutritious, and affordable meals that meet the diverse needs of our clients.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years' experience as a chef, preferably within the aged care, healthcare, or community services sector. Experience preparing meals that accommodate allergies, dietary requirements, and texture-modified needs is highly desirable.
You will be confident working autonomously while also leading and supporting a team of volunteers to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen.
Prepare daily hot, chilled, and frozen meals, including meals that meet special dietary and texture-modified requirements.
Ensure compliance with the Food Safety Program, including the accurate completion of all food safety records.
Provide food safety training, guidance, and support to volunteers and staff.
Follow strategic kitchen procedures relating to meal quality, portion control, approved recipes, ingredient usage, and PEAL labelling requirements.
Assist with menu development and continuous improvement based on client feedback.
Maintain a clean, hygienic, and safe kitchen environment in accordance with Food Safety and Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
Identify, coordinate, and report maintenance requirements for kitchen equipment.
Provide leadership, instruction, and support to kitchen volunteers.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Qualifications and/or significant experience working in a commercial kitchen environment.
Experience catering for individuals with specific nutritional needs, allergies, and dietary requirements.
Current Food Safety Supervisor Accreditation.
First Aid Qualified (or willingness to obtain).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, work independently, and perform effectively under pressure.
A commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes and exceptional service to clients.
Monday to Friday roster with no weekends or public holidays.
Early starts and early finishes.
Meaningful work that positively impacts the lives of people in your community.
Supportive team environment working alongside dedicated volunteers.
Salary packaging opportunities available.
17.5% annual leave loading.
A current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, or the willingness to obtain one upon commencement, is required.
If you are passionate about food, leadership, and community service, and would like to make a real difference by delivering more than just a meal, we would love to hear from you.
Apply now and become part of a team that supports independence, wellbeing, and connection throughout our community. Applications close Friday 19 June 2026. We will be monitoring applications and could interview prior to closing date as this position is for immediate start.
