The Role:

As Head of Visual Art and Design, you will lead a passionate team and champion high-impact teaching and learning. You’ll drive curriculum development in Visual Communication Design, foster cross-curricular connections, and support contemporary practice, including digital, laser-cutting and 3-D printing. You’ll build teacher capability, model professional excellence, and maintain a child-safe, respectful environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and review visual arts curriculum (Years 7 to 12, including VCE/VET)
• Lead and mentor a team of teachers, fostering a culture of feedback and collaboration
• Champion diverse and contemporary teaching strategies
• Oversee assessment, reporting, and documentation
• Lead departmental meetings and engage stakeholders
• Plan, coordinate, attend subject-related tours, including overseas tours
• Manage annual budget and resources
• Represent Strathcona at events

Selection Criteria:

• Experience teaching Visual Communication Design at VCE level
• VIT registration and demonstrated child safety knowledge
• Strong knowledge of contemporary learning theories and art/design technologies
• Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills
• Ability to prepare and manage budgets and resources
• Curriculum design and team coordination experience
• VET qualifications highly regarded
• Adobe Suite and relevant digital/design technology proficiency
