The Opportunity

Join a highly collaborative Infrastructure Assets team that plays a critical role in maintaining and improving assets that support the community every day. Working alongside asset planners, engineers, operational teams and external contractors, you'll contribute technical expertise that informs how infrastructure assets are inspected, maintained and planned over time.

In this role, you'll enjoy variety, splitting your time between field‑based inspections and office‑based reporting, with the autonomy to plan and manage your own workload. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders across Council and regularly engage with contractors and community members, contributing to positive, professional customer experiences.

You'll be part of a team that values practical problem‑solving, accuracy, teamwork and shared purpose, where your contribution directly supports safe, reliable and well‑maintained assets.

The role involves regular site visits and requires you to be physically capable of undertaking field‑based work.

This is a permanent full time 35 hour per week position. Salary from $87,142.96 up to $99,044.09 per annum, plus superannuation. A minimum increase of 3.25% to the salary from 1 July 2026 in accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement

How you'll make a

In this role, you'll play a key part in supporting informed asset decision‑making by:

• Undertaking asset inspections and condition assessments across infrastructure assets
• Interpreting drawings, plans, maps and spatial data to support asset planning and maintenance activities
• Collecting, validating and maintaining accurate asset data within enterprise systems
• Preparing clear, concise inspection records, reports and technical documentation
• Managing competing priorities across fieldwork, reporting and stakeholder requests
• Engaging with internal teams, contractors and community members to resolve asset‑related enquiries
• Applying WHS principles and safe work practices during all site‑based activities
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across asset inspection and data quality processes

About you

You bring recent experience working with infrastructure assets, with hands‑on exposure to inspections, condition assessments, maintenance or asset planning activities. You're comfortable working independently with minimal supervision, yet you value collaboration and enjoy being part of a supportive technical team. You hold a General Construction Induction Card (White Card), a valid Class C drivers licence and are comfortable working across the Wollongong Local Government Area, dependent on operational requirements.

You're confident interpreting technical documentation and translating what you see on site into accurate, reliable asset data that others can rely on. You take pride in your attention to detail, understand the importance of data quality, and recognise how your work supports long‑term asset decisions.

You communicate clearly and professionally, particularly in customer‑facing environments, and are able to manage stakeholder expectations-even when demands are high or situations are complex. You're organised, adaptable and open to learning new systems, tools and ways of working.
