Our client in Welshpool is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Mechanical Fitter to support manufacturing operations, ensure reliable equipment performance, and contribute to efficient production outcomes. Task & responsibilities
- Perform mechanical fitting, assembly, maintenance, and repair of mesh production line equipment and associated machinery
- Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out breakdown, preventative, and corrective maintenance to minimise downtime
- Set up, adjust, and commission mechanical components including drives, rollers, gearboxes, conveyors, and hydraulic systems
- Lead and coordinate daily tasks of fitters and trade assistants on the mesh line
- Provide on-the-job guidance and mentoring to team members, ensuring work is completed safely and to specification
- Liaise with production supervisors to prioritise maintenance activities and support production targets
- Ensure all work complies with site safety procedures, lock-out/tag-out requirements, and OH&S regulations
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts usage documentation
- Assist with installation and modification of plant and equipment to improve reliability and efficiency
- Promote continuous improvement in maintenance practices, safety, and housekeeping
Qualification & experience
- Australian-recognised trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing industrial manufacturing equipment, preferably within steel, mesh, or heavy manufacturing environments
- Proven experience in a leading hand or senior fitter role coordinating daily work activities
- Strong mechanical aptitude including bearings, shafts, drives, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical specifications
- Sound understanding of workplace safety systems and maintenance best practices
- Strong communication skills with a hands-on, team-focused approach
