Task & responsibilities

Responsibility

Cut, shape, join and repair metal components of iron and steel structures, boilers, pressure vessels and pipes, ships and other vessels.

Duties

•    Interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to identify job requirements.

•    Choosing, cleaning, and preparing metal materials for fabrication.

•    Cutting marked metal pieces and shapes using hand tools, flame torches, and metal cutting equipment.

•    Forming and bending metal sections and pipes with hand and power tools, including heating and hammering techniques.

•    Positioning and aligning components for assembly using measuring tools and hand instruments.

•    Assembling metal parts through welding, bolting, and riveting methods.

•    Inspecting welds to ensure proper bead size, penetration, and accuracy.

•    Completing finished products by cleaning, polishing, filing, and treating with acid solutions.

•    Smoothing and refining welds through filing, chiseling, and grinding

Qualification & experience

Qualifications

•    AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training

•    AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)

Experience

•    At least three years of relevant experience.
