The Painter is responsible for carrying out professional painting, coating, and surface preparation work on residential and commercial properties. The role ensures all work is completed to a high-quality standard, safely, efficiently, and in accordance with client specifications and Australian industry requirements.

JOB DUTIES:

• Preparing surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping, patching holes, and applying primers and sealers.
• Applying paint, varnish, stains, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
• Painting internal and external surfaces of residential and commercial buildings.
• Carrying out decorative finishes, texture coatings, and surface refinishing work as required.
• Mixing, matching, and preparing paint colours to meet job specifications.
• Protecting surrounding areas, fixtures, and surfaces prior to and during painting works.
• Applying protective and finishing coatings to enhance durability and appearance of surfaces.
• Undertaking repainting, maintenance, and restoration works on existing structures.
• Reading and interpreting work orders, plans, and project specifications.
• Ensuring consistent quality finish across all painting and decorating works.
• Assisting in the erection and dismantling of scaffolding and elevated work platforms where required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver painting work that meets required quality, safety, and client standards.
• Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
• Correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices at all times.
• Ensure compliance with Australian building, construction, and trade standards.
• Maintain safe, clean, and organised work environments at all job sites.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and team members.
• Complete assigned tasks within project timelines and deadlines.
• Take responsibility for the accuracy, durability, and finish of all completed work.

Qualification & experience

• Certificate III in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent trade qualification)
• Construction Induction Card (White Card)
• Minimum 1 year full-time experience as a Painter
• Demonstrated experience in residential and/or commercial painting projects
• Strong skills in surface preparation, coating application, and finishing techniques
• Competency in use of painting tools, brushes, rollers, and spray equipment
• Ability to safely work at heights and on elevated work platforms
• Good colour matching and decorative finishing skills
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Sound understanding of WHS requirements in construction environments
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
