Children’s Ministry Worker Job Description
Purpose: To coordinate and lead our church’s Children’s Ministries under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Pastor and in collaboration with the Children’s Ministry Leadership team. Our church’s current children’s ministries include Kids Church, Mandarin Sunday School, Little Sprouts and Tuesday Community Playgroup—Mainly Music.
Oversight and Accountability: To oversee various children’s ministries. The children’s ministry worker will report to the Senior Pastor
Hours: Part-time position of 3 days per week (23 hours/week plus reasonable additional hours from time to time)
Remuneration: As per the Baptist Churches of NSW & ACT Remuneration Recommendation, $41,485 pro rata (part-time $25,107)
Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement a clear vision and strategy for the care and discipleship of the church’s children which flows from and aligns with the church’s vision and mission.
2. Provide oversight, strategy and coordination for various children’s ministries, including Kids Church, Mandarin Sunday School, Little Sprouts and Mainly Music playgroup.
3. Develop and implement a strategy for whole-family discipleship; working with families to equip and empower parents to disciple their children.
4. Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers for various children’s ministries. In collaboration with the admin team to ensure compliance with appropriate safety training and checks (e.g. WWCC, Creating Safe Spaces, etc.) for all volunteers.
5. Plan and coordinate children’s ministries learning programs and resources, ensuring all learning materials are biblical, age-appropriate and aligned with the church vision. Be present on Sundays to oversee the overall running of the Sunday children’s programs.
6. Work with the Church Safety Officer to ensure all activities involving children adhere to the church’s safety policies and procedures.
7. Serve as a valuable team player alongside the pastoral and admin staff. This includes joining our Pastoral Team meetings, retreats, planning sessions, etc.
8. Provide leadership and participate in children’s or church-wide events such as Christian Education Sunday, Kids Talk, Kids Fun Day, Kids Church summer program, etc.
Essential criteria:
• Mature Christian
• Completed or committed to complete theological training from a recognised institution (e.g. Diploma of Theology or equivalent, such as Certificate in Theology
• 2 years of relevant ministry experience
• Require completing “Creating Safe Spaces” training
• Obtain Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Police Check
• Fluent in English
Desirable criteria:
• Completed Children’s Ministry subjects at theological college
• Proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin
