The Royal Danish Embassy in Canberra is seeking to recruit a full-time Political Officer on a locally employed contract.

About us
The Danish Embassy in Canberra handles Denmark’s bilateral relations with Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. We are a small, results-oriented and caring team that takes pride in our work and our results in building close and strong political and commercial ties between Denmark and the countries we cover in the region.
We cover a wide range of foreign policy areas, including geopolitics, security policy, climate and energy, green transition, trade promotion, public diplomacy and consular matters.
About your role
The Political Officer’s main tasks and responsibilities include the following:
• Monitoring, reporting on and analysing developments in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji within areas of particular interest to Denmark, including domestic and foreign policy developments, climate change, energy and economic security
• Contributing to the development and updating of embassy briefing material, as well as external communication in the form of speeches, presentations and public diplomacy material.
• Participating in external meetings and trips related to your areas of work.
• Supporting the further development, consolidation and implementation of the embassy’s communication, public diplomacy and cultural programme.
You will work closely with the Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission as well as our political intern. You will, furthermore, be expected to work with the Danish Consulate General in Sydney.
About you
We are looking for a candidate with:
• A relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in e.g. political science, international relations, economics, sociology, culture, communications, or business.
• Relevant experience with international cooperation, e.g. from ministries or government departments, universities, international organisations, NGOs, think tanks, or business organisations.
• Knowledge of and interest in promoting Danish political, societal and cultural strengths and priorities.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member, sometimes under time pressure.
• Proactive, open-minded and creative approach to the handling of tasks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including fluency in English.
• Proficiency in the most common IT platforms, e.g. Microsoft Office.
We expect you to be capable of independent thinking and to be a strong problem solver while at the same time enjoying being a part of a team and being ready to work flexibly across embassy tasks when needed.

Applicants must have Australian citizenship or a valid work permit in Australia. Please note that the Embassy is not able to sponsor a visa or work permit. Working holiday visas are excluded.
Employment conditions
• Full time position on an open-ended contract based on Australian and Danish labour laws and the Embassy’s staff rules.
• A standard 37-hour work week, with requirement for additional hours when necessary.
• Five weeks’ annual leave accrued at 2.08 days per month.
• Small friendly working environment with free parking available.
