Located in the Tonsley Innovation District, at 1414 Degrees we’re transforming how the world uses and stores energy – making renewable energy reliable, affordable and accessible for industry.
Our proprietary silicon-based energy storage and hydrogen technologies help industries cut emissions and reduce costs while keeping production running smoothly:
SiBrick® - safely and efficiently stores renewable electricity as latent heat, ready for use on demand
SiBox® - delivers consistent, high-temperature heat to industrial processes and can be seamlessly retrofitted as a viable alternative to conventional energy sources
SiPHyR™ - a groundbreaking methane pyrolysis reactor with integrated storage, producing low-emission hydrogen and solid carbon using renewable energy
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Process Engineer driven by innovation and keen to make a lasting impact on industrial decarbonisation.
The Role:
As an R & D Process Engineer, you’ll play a central role in taking SiPHyR from concept to commercialisation.
You’ll be hands on across all stages, including:
Design conceptualisation and calculations
Fabrication design and assembly
System-level analysis for optimal sizing and component selection
Instrumentation and operation of the SiPHyR product
Supporting commercialisation and real-world deployment
You’ll also collaborate across other 1414 Degrees projects, gaining exposure to diverse, innovative energy solutions.
About you:
You're curious, proactive, and excited to tackle big challenges in clean energy. To thrive in this role you’ll bring:
A degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (higher qualifications or experimental R&D experience valued)
3-5+ years of hands-on experience in a relevant field - e.g. fuels, energy conversion, thermal storage
Strong analytical skills and a knack for creative, lateral thinking
Proficiency in CAD and CAE tools for design and testing, e.g. Inventor, Ansys
A solid understanding of instrumentation, measurement and statistical data analysis
A proactive, self-motivated attitude with a results-oriented mindset
A commitment to safe working practices
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
A constructive, adaptable approach to improvement and change
At 1414 Degrees, you’ll join a team of people passionate about making a real-world impact on industrial decarbonisation.
If you’re ready to help shape the future of energy, we’d love to hear from you.
