Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles (vapor compression, absorption, etc.).
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
- Proficient in brazing, welding, and pipe-fitting.
- Familiarity with variable speed drives, building management systems (BMS), and digital controllers.

Physical Requirements:

- Work may be conducted in residential homes, commercial buildings, cold storage facilities, supermarkets, data centres, and industrial sites.

Task & responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Installation:
- Interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine installation requirements.
- Install, position, and connect refrigeration and air conditioning units, including ducting, piping, and controls.
- Assemble and install mechanical and electrical components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans, and thermostats.
- Fabricate and install copper and steel piping for refrigerant and drainage systems.
- Pressure test systems for leaks and compliance with Australian Standards (AS/NZS 1677, AS/NZS 5149, etc.).
Maintenance and Servicing:
- Conduct routine maintenance on HVAC-R equipment, including cleaning coils, replacing filters, lubricating motors, and checking system performance.
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance for commercial and residential clients.
Fault Finding and Repairs:
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- Use multimeters, gauges, and diagnostic tools to identify problems and perform repairs.
- Replace faulty components such as circuit boards, sensors, compressors, and fans.
- Perform gas recovery, leak detection, and recharging of refrigerants.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Work in compliance with Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) licensing requirements for refrigerant handling.
- Ensure systems meet the requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC) and AS/NZS standards.
- Complete service reports, installation checklists, refrigerant usage logs, and maintenance documentation.
Customer Interaction:
- Communicate clearly with clients regarding diagnoses, repair options, and system performance.
- Provide quotes and recommendations for system upgrades or replacements.
Qualification & experience
Qualifications & Licensing:
Essential:
- Relevant trade qualification or minimum 3 years of full-time work experience in a similar role
- Manual Driver’s Licence
Desirable:
- Working at Heights and Confined Space training
- White Card Induction
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Electrical Disconnect/Reconnect licence (Restricted Electrical Licence)
- Refrigerant Handling Licence
