Task & responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, and train retail staff in customer service excellence, product knowledge (including rug materials, styles, and care), and sales techniques.
  • Prepare and manage staff rosters to ensure optimal showroom coverage, including weekends and peak trading periods.
  • Drive sales performance by implementing effective sales strategies, upselling techniques, and customer engagement practices.
  • Provide expert advice to customers on rug selection, sizing, materials, and styling to suit their space and needs.
  • Manage and resolve customer enquiries, complaints, and escalations to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate in-store promotions, seasonal campaigns, and showroom merchandising to maximise sales.
  • Support online and digital sales initiatives, including liaising with e-commerce platforms and social media marketing.
  • Oversee procurement and replenishment of rugs and related products from local and international suppliers.
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure effective inventory control, including regular stocktakes and reconciliation of discrepancies.
  • Ensure the showroom is presented to a high standard, with visually appealing product displays aligned with current design trends.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Consumer Law, including product representations, warranties, and returns policies.
  • Implement and monitor workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures, including safe manual handling of heavy rugs.
  • Analyse sales performance and implement strategies to improve revenue and profitability.
  • Support growth of online sales channels and integration with physical showroom operations.

Qualification & experience

  • Diploma or higher qualification in Business, Management, Marketing, or a related field desirable 
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant full-time work experience in retail management and showroom management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a sales team to achieve targets.
  • Strong customer service and sales skills, with the ability to provide tailored product recommendations.
  • Experience in inventory management, supplier coordination, and stock control systems.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with POS systems, retail software, and/or e-commerce platforms is highly desirable.
