About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Steel / Metalwork Detailer & Drafting Coordinator to take ownership of the technical drawing workflow from site measurement through to approved shop drawings and final fabrication drawings. This is a hands-on technical leadership role suited to someone who understands both site conditions and workshop fabrication requirements.

The successful candidate will coordinate with project managers, site teams, fabricators and internal drafters to ensure drawings are accurate, buildable and ready for production. This role is more technical than a standard Project Coordinator role and requires strong experience in shop drawings, steel/metalwork detailing, fabrication processes and drawing revisions.

Key responsibilities

- Carry out or review site measurements and site assessments to confirm dimensions, constraints and installation requirements.

- Prepare, review and coordinate AutoCAD/Tekla/Revit shop drawings for approval.

- Convert approved drawings into fabrication, assembly, part, set-out and installation drawings.

- Review and revise drawings based on client, engineer, builder, site or fabrication feedback.

- Coordinate with the workshop/fabrication team on welding, bolting, fixing, connection details, material sizes, tolerances and production feasibility.

- Issue approved drawing packages and fabrication information to the production team.

- Guide and check the work of internal or offshore drafters, ensuring accuracy, consistency and timely completion.

- Identify technical drawing issues, clashes, missing information and buildability risks before fabrication.

- Attend site inspections or installation meetings where required to resolve technical drawing or installation issues.

- Maintain drawing registers, revision history and organised project documentation.

- Support project managers with technical input, RFIs, drawing approvals and production coordination.

Requirements

- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in steel detailing, metalwork drafting, façade drafting, structural steel, balustrades, handrails, glazing systems or related fabrication environments.

- Strong hands-on experience preparing shop drawings and fabrication drawings.

- Strong knowledge of steel/metal fabrication processes, including welding, bolting, fixings, materials, tolerances and installation methodology.

- Ability to interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings.

- Advanced AutoCAD skills required; Tekla, Revit, SolidWorks or Advance Steel highly regarded.

- Experience coordinating with workshops, fabricators, site supervisors, engineers and project managers.

- Ability to lead, guide or check a small drafting team.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify drawing errors before production.

- Good communication skills in English; Mandarin/Cantonese or experience working with Asian/Chinese fabrication teams will be highly regarded.

- Australian construction experience preferred; overseas experience in China, Hong Kong, Singapore or similar fabrication markets will also be considered if the candidate understands local project requirements.

- White Card and driver licence preferred.
