Shearer
Blownout Shearers are seeking a Qualified Professional Shearer to join our workforce of clean, reliable, work fit, and drug-free employees based in the Esperance shire in Southeast WA.
The successful applicant will be responsible for a range of professional shearing and wool-handling duties, including:
- Selecting and preparing shearing equipment
- Catching and positioning animals for shearing
- Shearing and removing wool and hair from animals
- Wool harvesting and crutching using machine shears
- Identifying contaminated fibre and detecting injured, infected, or diseased animals
- Quality control of fibres during wool harvesting, including colour variations and breed cross contaminations
- Marking miss-mobbed or diseased flocks
- Treating minor skin cuts
- Returning shorn animals to let-out pens for counting and checking
- Servicing, maintaining, and repairing shearing equipment
- Shearing stud animals using hand shears or specialised combs where required
- Team management responsibilities
- Bus transportation operations
- Equipment Requirements
Applicants will be expected to own and supply all relevant tooling and equipment required to perform the role, including but not limited to:
- Grinder
- Combs and cutters
- Handpiece
- Related consumable items and shearing tools
- Essential Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Minimum 3 years of full-time work experience in shearing and related duties
- Relevant team management experience
- Valid driver’s licence
- Ability to pass a clean 3-step drug test (provided by the employer)
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to reliability, safety, and fitness for work
The position is permanent and full-time and offers an annual salary of $90,000 to $105,000 for the right candidate.
