About the Job
There is an exciting opportunity with the Ranger & Emergency
Services team as a Shire Ranger. The Shire Ranger role is
responsible for delivering community safety, public amenity and
regulatory compliance outcomes through patrol, investigation,
education and enforcement activities across the Shire.
The position administers and enforces relevant legislation, local
laws and Council policies, while working closely with residents,
visitors, public authorities and internal stakeholders to respond
to community concerns and support consistent compliance
outcomes.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Management and maintenance of council’s street tree and
tree assets.
- Perform a diverse range of tree maintenance tasks and other
parks and reserves maintenance tasks as required.
- Perform tree inspections to guide tree maintenance programs
in line with the Shire Street Tree Policy.
- Provide guidance to other staff and stakeholders on tree
issues.
- Liase with contractors on tree maintenance tasks as
required.
- Perform work unsupervised or with limited direction.
- Supervise and provide direction to a small group of
employees and ensure a high quality and standard of work they
produce.
- Required to exercise the skills and knowledge of relevant
trade or expertise.
- Monitor, maintain and construct Council infrastructure as
required.
- Maintain appropriate documentation as directed by the Parks
and Reserves Supervisor.
- Maintain all associated plant & equipment relative to
position in liaison with the Supervisor Parks and Reserves
Operations.
- Competent operations of specific mechanical plant or
vehicles.
- Responsible for assuring the quality of their own
work.
- Any other duties as required.
This is a full time position, working 38 hours per week.
About you
In order to succeed and thrive in this position, you must
have:
Essential Level 6
- Developed animal handling techniques.
- Knowledge and understanding of the legislation relevant to
Ranger Services.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication
skills.
- Demonstrated public relations and interpersonal
skills.
- Ability to perform basic building maintenance and cleaning
duties inclusive of the use of basic work tools.
- Understanding of Work Health and Safety requirements.
- C class Drivers Licence.
- National Police Clearance.
- Availability for on call ranger duties.
Essential Level 7
- The above Essential Level 6 criteria.
- Suitable qualifications in a relevant field (ROCS 1 & 2),
or experience in a similar Local Government role.
- Comprehensive demonstrated experience relevant to Ranger
Services activities, including developing technical and
administrative skills related to Ranger activities and
functions.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the interpretation
and enforcement of statutes, regulations, local laws, policies
etc. in relation to State and Local Law enforcement, together
with the application, investigation and prosecution of such as
required.
- Well-developed negotiation, problem solving, conflict
resolution and public relation skills.
- Good level of computer skills including use of Microsoft
applications, email, internet, GIS and sound record
keeping.
- Demonstrated experience in court matters relating to local
government activities.
Benefits
Salary:$86,351 - $92,317 per annum dependent on
level.
Permanent staff are entitled to:
- 5 weeks annual leave per year
- The option of one Rostered Day Off (RDO) every 4 weeks in
exchange for working 40 hours per week.
