The Role
To support ongoing operations and service delivery across metropolitan and regional areas, Steann Pty Ltd is seeking experienced truck drivers/skid steer operators to join its waste collection workforce. Truck drivers are responsible for operating heavy vehicles used in verge collection services, including the safe collection, loading, and transport of hard waste and green waste in accordance with council schedules and safety procedures. Due to the nature of the work and the geographic spread of service areas, drivers must be capable of working in both urban and rural environments and comply with all road transport, workplace health and safety, and environmental requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate a skid steer loader quickly and efficiently in the required application
- Operate heavy rigid and/or articulated trucks for the collection and transport of waste materials
- Safely manoeuvre vehicles into position for loading and unloading at collection and disposal sites
- Load and unload waste using approved lifting and tipping equipment
- Comply with workplace health and safety, road transport, and environmental regulations
- Conduct pre-start and routine vehicle safety and maintenance checks
- Monitor load weights to ensure compliance with legal limits and safe weight distribution
- Secure loads to prevent spillage or damage during transport
- Complete required documentation, including load and delivery records
Skills and Experience
- Must have skid steer loader experience in a verge collection application
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a truck driver, preferably within waste management or a similar industry
- Valid Australian Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) driver’s licence
- Demonstrated knowledge of road transport and workplace health and safety requirements
- Ability to work independently and follow scheduled collection routes
- Willingness to work in both metropolitan and regional locations as required
- Good communication skills and a reliable work ethic
- Willingness to work overtime when required
