As the Small Engine Mechanic, you report to the Operations Manager and are responsible for providing customers with an exceptional level of service through pickups/deliveries and maintenance/repair of small motor powered equipment to exacting standards.

Task & responsibilities
Repairs and overhauls cleaning equipment, gas burnishers, ride on floor scrubbers, walk behind floor scrubbers, gas & diesel ride on floor sweepers, petrol high pressure cleaners and petrol blowers as required by performing the following duties:
Recognizing and repairing faults within the engines and parts of the machines
- Dismantling and reassembling engines, parts, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components after being repaired
- Maintaining a database for servicing and repairing cleaning machines and updating it regularly
- Constantly referring to all applicable engine and parts manuals to assist in diagnosis and repair
- Ensuring that all worn and defective engine parts are removed and replaced
- Reassembling and repairing small engines
- Carryout diagnostic procedures
- Repairing starting systems
- Following best practices of environmentally and sustainability friendly ways to ensure safe work practices in an automotive workplace
- Inspect motors and mechanical and/or electrical components to diagnose issues accurately
- Inspect computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade
- Conduct routine maintenance work, e.g. replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc, aiming to maintain functionality and longevity
- Schedule future maintenance sessions and advise customers on good practices for use
- Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues, e.g. leaks
- Provide accurate estimates e.g. cost, time, effort, for a repair or maintenance job
- Keep logs on work and issues
- Maintain equipment and tools in good condition
Qualification & experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required:
- A formal trade level qualification in the area of Automotive Mechanical Technology
- A minimum of 12 months work experience in a similar position is required - additional experience is of benefit and will be considered favourably
