Temporary works drafting is a specialist discipline. Not everyone can do it well, and the people who can usually have options. If you're one of them, here's why AWE is worth a look.
About AWE
AWE Consulting Group is a boutique structural engineering consultancy based in Melbourne with over 20 years of experience in temporary works, formwork, falsework, scaffolding, propping, façade retention, crane assessments and more. We work on some of Melbourne's most complex construction projects, regularly alongside Tier 1 contractors, and we do it as a small, expert team.
Current projects include:
North East Link;
Suburban Rail Loop;
Eastern Freeway;
M80;
Various high rise buildings;
Water treatment facilities;
Bridge upgrades; etc.
We've grown strongly over the past three years and we're bringing on a structural drafter to grow with us. No big firm politics. No production line. Just interesting work, good engineers, and a team that takes the craft seriously.
The role
We're open to an intermediate or senior candidate, 3+ years is the floor, but if you bring significantly more, we'll structure the role and the package to match. What we're not flexible on is the background: you need real temporary works or construction-specific drafting experience. This isn't a role for someone who's spent their career drawing residential footings.
Day to day you'll work directly with our engineers, translating design intent into accurate, site-ready drawings across a live portfolio of temporary works projects. You'll need to think as well as draw, construction sequences, site constraints and engineering intent all shift as projects evolve, and your drawings need to keep up.
What you'll be doing
Producing 2D AutoCAD drawings for temporary works, formwork, falsework, scaffolding, propping, façade retention, demolition staging
Building 3D models to support design coordination and contractor communication
Working closely with engineers at all stages, from early design through to site-ready documentation
Managing your own drawing register, revisions and QA
Resolving drawing queries with site teams and contractors directly
At senior level: reviewing others' work and helping set the standard across the team
What we need
Essential:
AutoCAD 2D, strong, production-level proficiency
Structural engineering drafting, construction and/or temporary works
Hands-on experience with formwork, falsework, scaffolding, propping or similar
Sound knowledge and experience with proprietary products used in this field (Acrow; RMD; Peri; Layher; DOKA; etc)
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and engineering calculations
Victorian Driver's Licence
Preferred (will set you apart):
AutoCAD 3D, Revit or Tekla Structures
SketchUp experience
Façade retention, demolition staging or crane works exposure
What's in it for you
Competitive salary, we'll pay for the right person
Specialist work on genuinely complex projects, not volume residential
Small team, big exposure, you'll work directly with senior engineers from day one
Elsternwick office and real flexibility on hours
A business that's growing, and wants you to grow with it
