Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Senior Circular Knitting Technician / Mechanic to support the installation, maintenance, optimisation and continuous improvement of circular knitting operations within a growing Australian textile manufacturing business.

Essential Experience

• Minimum 5–10 years' experience in circular knitting manufacturing.

• Extensive hands-on experience with one or more of:

  • Mayer & Cie.

  • Terrot

  • Fukuhara

  • Santoni

  • Pai Lung

  • Wellknit

• Experience in single jersey, double jersey, rib and interlock knitting.

• Strong understanding of yarn behaviour and knitting mechanics.

Technical Responsibilities

• Install, commission and set up new circular knitting machines.

• Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic and electronic machine faults.

• Diagnose fabric defects and identify root causes.

• Optimise machine efficiency, output and quality performance.

• Set machine timing, feeders, sinkers, cams and needle systems.

• Conduct preventative maintenance programs.

• Develop and manage maintenance schedules and spare parts inventories.

• Train and mentor operators and junior technicians.

• Establish machine operating procedures and best practices.

• Improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and machine utilisation.

• Reduce downtime, waste and quality defects.

• Liaise with machine manufacturers and technical service teams.

Electronics Experience

• Inverter drives and motor control systems.

• PLC troubleshooting (Omron experience desirable).

• Electronic feeders and positive feed systems.

• Sensor diagnostics and replacement.

• Machine control panel diagnostics.

• Basic industrial electrical fault finding.

Production Improvement Experience

• Machine efficiency optimisation.

• Production planning support.

• Continuous improvement initiatives.

• Lean manufacturing principles.

• Waste reduction programs.

• Preventative maintenance systems.

• KPI monitoring and reporting.

Language Requirements

• Basic to intermediate English.

• Ability to understand:

  • Safety procedures

  • Technical manuals

  • Maintenance documentation

  • Production instructions

Desirable Experience

• Experience in technical textiles.

• Medical textile manufacturing.

• Food processing textile manufacturing.

• Lycra/elastane plating.

• Jacquard systems.

• Electronic patterning systems.

• Relocation to Australia under employer sponsorship.
