About the Role
You might know this role as a Transport Planner, Freight Coordinator or Operations Controller — same work, different title.
This role sits at the operational centre of our Altona bulk chemical division. You will own the daily freight schedule, manage driver compliance, control costs and keep our customers on side. Your decisions directly affect whether loads are delivered safely on time and within budget.
You will report to the Operations Manager and work closely with drivers, the team and key accounts. When something goes wrong on the road, you are the person who sorts it. When a customer calls with a question, you have the answer. You will not be micromanaged, this role expects you to take ownership and deliver.
What You Will Do
• Build and manage daily freight schedules to hit DIFOT targets
• Monitor and audit operational costs against divisional KPIs
• Review electronic driver work diaries for fatigue compliance
• Manage customer accounts and conduct regular service reviews
• Coordinate vehicle repair, recovery and equipment procurement
• Maintain accurate data across transport and admin systems
• Support driver onboarding and day-to-day performance
What You Will Bring
• Background in transport operations, freight scheduling or logistics
• Solid understanding of Chain of Responsibility and heavy vehicle compliance
• BFM certificate, or ready to obtain one
• Strong communicator — comfortable with drivers, customers and managers
• Decisive and organised; holds up well under operational pressure
Why McColl’s
• Competitive Salary + super: permanent, full-time role
• Altona based: stable site, close-knit team in an essential industry
• Real autonomy: plan the work, own the outcome, be trusted to deliver
• National business with a growing investment in technology and fleet
